Our School

Welcome to St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Elementary School Web Site. St. Joseph The Worker Catholic School is a large school encompassing a geographic area in Thornhill, in the city of Vaughan,in York Region. Presently there are 260 students attending the school. The school is over 25 years old and serves the needs of students from junior kindergarten to grade 8. Over the years, the population of the school has become more diverse and multicultural. Presently we offer the French Immersion program for students in grades 1, 2, and 3, as well as the regular English stream for students in kindergarten through to grade 8. We also have an ISA centre here, which services students with learning disabilities.

We have a well balanced curriculum and the EQAO scores reflect a hard working student population, supportive parents and a well qualified staff. St. Joseph The Worker School also enjoys a partnership with the Child Care Centre attached to the school building. The Child Care Centre also runs a before and after school program that services approximately 100 students. The Child Care is known for its excellent programs and homemade food, served daily to the children.

We have also partnered with The Settlement and Education Partnership in York Region (SEPYR) group, which has offices located at St. Joseph the Worker school. They have a staff of approximately 20 people that occupy 4 rooms at the end of our Junior hallway in the school. SEPYR provides settlement services in many languages for newcomer students and their families, in their local schools. SEPYR is administered and staffed by CCSYR, in partnership with the York Catholic District School Board and the York Region District School Board and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The School Settlement Workers work closely with school staff, parents, students and volunteers to establish welcoming communities in the school for newcomers and pave the way for a smooth integration into Canadian society. SePYR is part of the Settlement Workers in Scholls Program (SWIS).

Our property is adjacent to St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church. We work closely with our pastor, Father Mario, through the celebration of masses, para-liturgies and preparation for the sacraments. The third partner in education the children is the Catholic School Council. They support the school through volunteering, rs, fundraising, a weekly hot lunch program.
